NAS Brands in 2021 – Which One Should You Choose? 🤍 Buying your first Network Attached Storage (NAS) device can be a remarkably daunting task! Even for the most technologically knowledgable, a NAS is a very different kind of device than most of the hardware in your environment. At its heart, it is just a computer (like most things are when you break them down to the basics) that is built for a specific task. However, there are numerous elements of a NAS (such as it always being ON, the constant remote accessibility and focus on storage primarily) that set it apart from most other devices, and this si where a lot of people get a bit intimidated by it. There is always the option of using cloud services, such as DropBox, Google Drive, OneDrive and more, but these are often paid monthly subscription services, involve your data being shared across other services and (most worrying of all) leaves your precious data in a position to be used for analytics without your knowledge OR open to hacking because of the sheer size of the target. Add to this the fact that in most cases, a severed connection to the internet means a severed connection to your data, and the appeal of moving away from 3rd party cloud and on to a NAS is pretty clear. The industry of NAS has been in constant growth for over 30 years, with big players like HP, Dell and IBM steadily losing the home and SMB market to the likes of Synology, QNAP and more. The brand diversity in the field of NAS servers has continued to grow right up until 2021, with the benefit that the way you can interact with your data, what NAS devices can do and the price point of this technology being exceedingly affordable (with fully featured solutions WITH storage media arriving as low as £200). So, today I want to talk about what NAS is, what a NAS can do, and which NAS Brand you should consider buying in 2021. This description contains links to and Amazon. Video Editing on a QNAP NAS - How to Set it Up

Video Editing over 10Gbe or Thunderbolt with a NAS Drive - The Easy Way 🤍 Of all the industries that have grown in terms of data storage, video editing and production has got to be one of the largest generators of unique and ever increasingly size data in the world. From wildlife photographers and fashion, to YouTube content creators and large scale movie production, video editing is BIG business and require power, speed and efficiency from it's hardware environment in order to achieve success. Up until a few years ago, editing footage in post-production with popular editing software (Final Cut, Adobe Premiere, DaVinci, etc) could be done quite easily on your local HDD/SSD (your C:/) or via a connected external drive. However fast forward to last 2-3years and you see that the SIZE of the footage in 4K and 1080p, as well as the performance required to edit it is significantly higher than the performance available to most SATA SSD inside your machine or an external drive. From there the industry moved into NVMe SSD and Thunderbolt DAS RAID external storage, which do get the job done BUT with the prohibitive cost of NVMe AND it's low top capacities, as well as the poor portability of Thunderbolt RAID DAS in the field and its single-connection-allow architecture, make them good but not perfect. Which leads me to 10Gbe and/or Thunderbolt NAS for video editing. Now, it too is not perfect, BUT it ticks ALOT of the boxes. Video Editing on a NAS over 10Gbe or via a Thunderbolt-equipped NAS drive presents a number of advantages and improvements of what came before, such as: Editing on a NAS over 10Gbe can provide up to 1000MB/s performance, which can be further increased with link aggregation or upgrading network interface ports later down the line Editing over Thunderbolt NAS can get up to 1600MB/s, depending on the storage media and thunderbolt NAS you choose Editing on a NAS allows you to upgrade the connection during the storage solutions lifespan (with PCIe upgrade cards on both the NAS and cards/external adapters on your physical system) to increase the connection to double, triple or even quadruple your performance Editing on a NAS allows you to improve the workflow in your video editing with multiple users in the chain. A NAS can be accessed by multiple users at once and each can have a dedicated speed and priority of access depending on their task needs Not only can you edit on the NAS, but factoring the NAS into your backup strategy allows you to significantly lessen the chances of losing your data - run a duplication task in the NAS, or use the NAS Backup Software to duplicate key files on a schedule or live to numerous devices (another NAS, USB, the cloud and more) Editing on a NAS also allows you to upload raw/pre-production footage remotely whilst off-site, so it is then ready to be edited on as soon as you return to your desk This description contains links to and Amazon. QNAP Virtualization Station is used to create virtual machines. Unlike LXD, in Container Station which uses pre-built Linux images, VM’s require an operating system installation. LXD only supports Linux and so Windows must be installed in a virtual machine. We are going to learn how to create a Windows 11 virtual machine in Virtualization Station on QNAP. Not only that, but we will learn how to make it run much faster. HDDs are getting bigger (18TB and 20TB in the works) and SATA SSDs are now embraced in the majority of systems, but NVMe based SSD seems to be getting faster by the day and we have not seen any of the most popular NAS brands jump on board with this - TILL NOW.QNAP has just revealed the new NVMe ONLY Flash server rackmount NAS, the TS-h2490FU, and it is quite the powerhouse of a device. Arriving with 24 bays, a completely new and industry-unique CPU in the 2nd generation AMD EPYC series of processors, up to a staggering 4TB of memory, 25Gbe ports and the raw storage utilization of NVMe U.2 (PCIe Gen 3 x4) over 32Gb/s of dedicated bandwidth each, this is an absolute BEAST. Designed with flash storage in mind, with operations hitting speeds of 14,028 MB/s Read and 10,582 MB/s write, this ZFS equipped device also features the inline data deduplication and compression that will improve bandwidth efficiency, space utilization and (especially important with flash use) durability long term. This along with a whole bunch of QNAP specific features and services in QuTS hero make this a very complete and very fast solution. Let's find out more about the QNAP TS-h2490FU Rackmount NAS server. Here, i have described how to configure Qnap NFS4 Multipathing with VMware. This is a step by step guideline how to configure NFS4 MPIO. First, I have configured TES-1885U Enterprise nas, I have created the NFS share directory, assigned permission and dedicated 2 10Gig Lan for the NFS Traffic. And after that, created 2 VMkernel interface at ESXi, assigned IP from different subnet to those vmk interfaces. both VMkernel interfaces are attached to the separate 10Gig Interfaces. ESXi can connect to qnap with each ip separately. Both Qnap and ESXi are connected to same 10gig Nexus Switch. Website: 🤍 LinkedIn: 🤍 Facebook: 🤍 Twitter: 🤍 #nfs #qnap #multipathing Playlist URL: 🤍

Security is of paramount importance for all companies and is also the highest priority for QNAP as a network-attached storage solution provider. pfSense® provides numerous security options that help safeguard QNAP NAS in a protected network environment and enables fast and easy internal firewall deployment to secure NAS-based business applications and data from damage or theft.
