A Step by Step Guide to Getting Kodi on Your QNAP NAS - UPDATED - 🤍 Despite the growing popularity of third-party multimedia streaming services such as Netflix, Disney plus and HBO Max, there is still a solid demand by users to enjoy the media they own from the comfort of the sofa in a digital, disc-free environment. Whether it is because we have hundreds of DVD and Blu-ray discs cluttering up shelves or a drawer full of hard drives brimming with good TV to watch, some users resent having to pay subscription services for media they may already own or end up spending hundreds of pounds a year on media they do not own, with its removal and availability changed on a whim. It is for reasons like these that many users look into purchasing a solid network-attached storage (NAS) drive from brands such as QNAP in order to enjoy the media they own, while still enjoying slick graphical user interfaces GUI offered that is comparable to Netflix and Prime Video. One application that has been in allowing users to enjoy the media they own for many years is KODI, a media centre application with thousands of addons, unparalleled codec+format support and one of the easiest user interfaces to navigate and customise. Sadly, in recent years less scrupulous individuals have taken advantage of the flexibility of Kodi in order to play copyrighted material found online illegally and stream from less than legal sources to watch new multimedia. Because of this, Kodi was largely shunned by most well-established app stores and is no longer available to be directly downloaded from the NAS application centre in 2022. However, that does not mean it is impossible to still use and in fact, there are multiple versions of Kodi you can use, as well as add-ons to connect with your streaming services and even access other multimedia services available that are installed on your QNAP NAS (Plex, Emby, Twinky, etc). So today I want to walk you through how to install Kodi on your QNAP NAS and start watching your media from your sofa today. Let's begin. Install KODI v.19 Matrix on your QNAP NAS 🤍 Buying a NAS Drive for use as a Kodi Media Centre is pretty common these days and something that alot of people have done in the past to huge success. With access to your own privately owned multimedia, the ability to share that media with friends and family, access Kodi TV channels and enjoy all the metadata background images, reviews and information that are included to dress up your movies and boxsets beautifully - the appeal is pretty obvious. However many users also like the option to access their Kodi Media Server locally over HDMI, i.e. connecting a TV to the HDMI port of their NAS and then accessing the Kodi media centre with all it's graphical flair and design (as opposed to streaming from the NAS to an Amazon FireStick or Android TV Box with Kodi installed) with near-zero latency, which is hugely beneficial for MASSIVE 4K H.264 high bitrate media that is just so big to stream over the network, but HDMI can handle immediately. Till recently, the very best way of having HDMI access to your Kodi Media Server was using the QNAP HD Station application and many of the QNAP HDMI enabled NAS. However, Kodi has been missing from the QNAP app library for a few years and this has been a real area of disappointment for many users. Having a NAS to store files is great, but having a NAS as a media server is awesome. If one of your purposes to have bought a Synology NAS was to have it as a media server, then having Kodi in your PC / Mac / Fire TV is a must. By now you probably know that your Synology NAS gives you an option to install Plex in the NAS itself, however, Plex cannot play everything, unlike Kodi. Tip: If you want Kodi to update your library every time you add new content (videos) to your Synology, enable "Update Library on Start up" option in Kodi by going to "Settings - Videos - Library - Update Library on Start up", this way every time you open Kodi it will search for new files and add them to your library. * Consider supporting me by getting me a coffee (or a couple) 🤍 This is the Synology NAS that I have: 🤍 And this is the NAS hard drive: 🤍 And personally, I have the Amazon Fire Stick where Kodi is installed 🤍 * If you like my content and want to support me, you can buy me a coffee: 🤍 Follow me on - Twitter: 🤍 - Blog: 🤍 - GitHub: 🤍

Best Plex Media Server NAS to Buy of the Year - 🤍 If you are looking to upgrade your multimedia setup in 2019, chances are that you have already heard of the great multimedia application, Plex Media Server (PMS), that allows you to access all your movies and boxsets anywhere in the world, on almost any device! Plex is supported by everything from Smart TVs and Consoles, through to iOS and Android Phones – this incredibly accessible and intuitive media application provides all your owned media to you, as well as dressing it with titles, descriptions, background studio information, cast lists and recommendations for other shows! It is the perfect multimedia tool for those that want the colourful and information user interface similar to Netflix and Amazon Instant, but want to enjoy their own media, rather than stream/rent media from an online source! If you are looking to build your perfect Plex Media Server, it is highly recommended that you use a Network Attached Storage (NAS) drive. This affordable server solution for plex means you have a discreet solution that is easy to setup, easy to forget and will just run in the corner of a room/cupboard as your multimedia centre and let you access all your films, box sets and home movies ANYWHERE in the world. However, choosing the right NAS for a plex media server can be difficult. Big brands such as Synology, QNAP, Asustor, WD and Netgear all have a range of NAS drives available that all promise to support the Plex Media Server application (which is FREE), but each performs better or worse than another. So today, I want to discuss the Top Plex Media Server NAS from each brand, at £500, £1000 and £2000+. What is the best NAS for Kodi? If you are buying a NAS in 2018 for KODI, there is good news and bad news. Kodi on a network attached storage device used to be so so simple. As little as two years ago having both Plex and Kodi on your NAS was very common indeed, with QNAP NAS being at the forefront of multimedia NAS choice. However, since the start of 2017, QNAP has removed Kodi support officially from their App Centre permanently. Though the Kodi application can still be installed unofficially on QNAP NAS by visiting this page here, but with the official QTS software having firmware updates every week, it won’t be too long now before KODI will cease to function completely on your QNAP NAS. So where do we go from here? Many of you still want access to the XMBC system that only KODI can provide on those platforms. Luckily KODI is still available for some NAS brands and is still updated regularly like other NAS applications. Today I want to talk about to NAS brands that still currently support the KODI application officially, as well as the use of a remote control to control the interface directly from your sofa.
